The Freehold Sunrise Optimists will host its annual comedy night next month with a number of special featured guests, helping raise money for the organizations youth activities within the community.

A Night of Comedy will bring together three popular comedians at the Freehold Township Senior Center (116 Jackson Mills Rd.) for the event that starts at 8 p.m.

The headlining comedian will be Liz Barrett, a New York comedian who has been referred to as a female Steven Wright and a thinking mans Roseanne. Her humor has been called dark and batty. Barrett made her television debut on Gotham Comedy Live and appears often on Laughs on Fox.

Barrett has opened for Judy Gold and Gilbert Gottfried, and also appeared at the Boston Comedy Festival, She Devil Comedy Festival, Ladies of Laughter, and Laughing Skull Comedy Festival. She headlined the famous Carolines on Broadway as part of its Breakout Artist Series.

The featured comedian of the night will be Mike Cross, a Cleveland native who survived being the youngest of nine children. Cross blends personal stories from being in the Navy to spending nights in jail, in his unique style. In 2016, Cross made his TV debut on Gotham Comedy Live.

The emcee for the evening is Ashlee Voorsanger, a New York based comedian. Born and raised in Texas, she got her start in Dallas before moving to Los Angeles, and made her TV debut on the Greg Behrendt Show.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Coffee and dessert will be included. The event is BYOB and snacks, and will include a Tricky Tray and 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $25 at the door or through mail (Sunrise Optimist, PO Box 351, Adelphia, NJ 07710.)
