In 2024, Sylvia’s Children continued its critical work at Mbiriizi Advanced Primary and Daycare School in Uganda. We weathered storms, engaged our community, and overcame the odds to ensure our children will continue to thrive.
In April, a flood ravaged the campus, severely damaging a dormitory (the home for boys ages 2-14) and rendering it uninhabitable. Through swift action and a remarkable response from our community, we raised the necessary funds and repaired the flood damage in record time. Such rapid action exemplifies the resilience and dedication of Sylvia’s Children and its supporters.
We brought the computer lab online – bringing the world to Mbiriizi’s children. The North St. Paul/Maplewood/Oakdale Rotary Club in Minnesota District 5960 spearheaded the drive to raise money for the computer lab. The lab is outfitted with 40 computers, printers, and a large screen monitor for Zoom calls.
This year, 24 orphans graduated from college – bringing the total number of orphans with advanced degrees to 299. In addition, 75 orphans advanced into high school. These consistent successes represent what Uganda so desperately needs. They are also one of the reasons why Mbiriizi has been ranked in the top 100 primary schools in Uganda – out of 12,000 primary schools across the country!
Have you ever been hungry … I mean REALLY hungry?
Many of our families have still not fully recovered, financially, from COVID. However, they are dedicated to saving what little they have and educating their children for a better chance at life. Of course, they often make sacrifices. One of these sacrifices has been to forego a packed lunch. Since the government does not provide school lunch, we need your help feeding the children of the school in 2025, as families continue to recover eco- nomically. With your support, we can raise our goal of $90,000 to provide daily meals for these children, empowering them to focus on their education and future success.
