HOLMDEL, N. J. Allen Consulting and Sylvias Children founder, Sylvia Allen, will need to nail in yet another shelf onto her wall. She has just been honored with SCANs (Senior Citizens Activities Network) annual Senior of Distinction award for 2008.
The award, which celebrates the outstanding achievements made by active older adults, will be presented to Allen during the organizations 20th Annual Awards Luncheon to be held on Tues, Sept. 9 at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls.
“Your model as a businessperson, outstanding presenter and speaker, and philanthropist deserves more recognition than this award could ever offer, said Beth C. Stamp, executive director of SCAN, in a letter informing Allen of her selection on behalf of SCANs Board of Directors.
“I never thought I would be a senior citizen since I have so much left to do! This is quite an honor and I hope I can be an example to other seniors that life does NOT end at 65,” said Allen.
Allen, who recently turned 71 in 2008 successfully leads Allen Consulting, one of the countrys top marketing organizations in the field of sports and special events which she founded 30 years ago. It has been named one of the 50 fastest-growing privately held companies in New Jersey by a leading area business publication. Additionally, Allen has also co-founded a professional organization, Women in Sports and Events (WISE), and has founded and managed the Vail International Multi-Image Festival and the American Sandsculpting Championship.
She has also won numerous awards and accolades, including the Governors Tourism Award, PRSA Gold Award, CAMA Gold Award, JASPER Gold Award, National PR Award, in addition to having won the 2006 Athena Award, Humanitarian of the Year, Crystal Beacon Award, and being selected as the NAWBO Business Owner of the Year. She was also recently inducted into the IFEA (International Festivals & Events Association) Hall of Fame in 2005.
In addition to Allen Consulting, the Edina, MN., native has also founded Sylvias Children, a non-profit organization started in 2003 to raise money to feed, clothe, house and educate African children left orphaned by the AIDS pandemic. Moreover, she has been elected as an honorary grandmother by the children of Masaka, Uganda, the highest honor in their culture.
