The Freehold Sunrise Optimists have announced today that they will hold a Blood Drive on October 24 in Freehold Township.

The community service organization will be holding the drive to support the work of the American Red Cross, which is in desperate and urgent need of blood.

The organization hopes to fill 80 spots during the five-hour-long Blood Drive, which will be taking place at I Play America, located at 110 Schanck Road in Freehold from between 2 and 7 p.m.

During the Drive, the Freehold Sunrise Optimists will be facilitating the donation of both blood as well as Power Red, in the form of red blood cells, with the majority of platelets and plasma going back to the donor.

Each pint of whole blood requires about an hour for completion of the donation process.

Donors of Power Red must meet specific eligibility requirements and have Type A Neg, B Neg or O blood.
