The prominent host of “In-Depth Outdoors TV” James Holst has been announced as the Grand Marshal of this year’s 28th Annual World Famous Fish House Parade, set to take place in Downtown Aitkin on Friday, November 23.

The world famous parade has become one of the Midwest’s go-to events, as onlookers come from all over to watch a cavalcade of ice fishing houses make their way through Downtown Aitkin just in time for the start of the holiday season.

Presented by the Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce, the annual event features a moving display of ice fishing houses as they make their way up to more than 300 of the state’s thousands of lakes, giving the state its nickname as the ‘Land of 10,000 Lakes.’

This year’s Grand Marshal, Holst, first began his fishing career as a full-time fishing guide, spending more than 250 days a year on the water, coaching clients how to catch walleyes on the Upper Mississippi River and Minnesota’s Lake Mille Lacs. In 2000, he launched the In-Depth Outdoors website, allowing him to share his knowledge with a larger audience. And in 2006, Holst began hosting a fishing TV show with In-Depth Outdoors TV.

New this year will be Santa’s Snack Shack, a new and exciting shop to help with your special holiday baking and shopping, at the historic Butler Building, located at 301 Minnesota Avenue North. Make sure to stop by starting at 7 a.m. to enjoy various food dishes and refreshments, including homemade chicken wild rice soup, chili, mac and cheese, bread sticks, hot dogs, nachos and cheese, fruit and meat appetizer trays, sandwiches, hot chocolate, coffee and tea as well as fresh caramel rolls and other pastries. They will also accept orders for holiday cookies and candy as well as beautiful and unique handcrafted items for sale.

Held annually on Black Friday, the “World Famous Fish House Parade” has become a legendary event for the State of Minnesota, giving Minnesotans the opportunity to usher in the holiday season with fun, festivities and food.

The day usually includes a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus who will be at the Butler Building, awards and raffle prizes, and a Soup Dinner at The Landing, as well as a Super Discount Ball Drop.
